Steve Loschen
Lieutenant Governor
Farmer Steve Loschen lives with his wife Cari and their three children on their 1,500+ acre family farm near Wilcox. Steve is a corn, soybean and wheat farmer with both dryland and center pivot acres and is a seed dealer for LG Seeds. The Loschen family is very active in the Lutheran church.
Though Loschen is running for lieutenant governor, he hasn't spent his life running for office. While he is involved in the Nebraska Farmers Union, Steve's focus has been primarily on farm and family. He has voted for Republicans, Democrats and Independents. In 1992 and 1996, Loschen was proud to vote for Ross Perot because Perot talked about the "giant sucking sound" that was hurting our nation's economy for working folks and farmers and ranchers.
Loschen credits much of his education as a farmer to his father Harold and his mother Rosie, who have been farming in Franklin County for over 60 years. After two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the mid-1980s, Loschen returned home to the farm. For the past 20 years, he and his parents have worked together to grow the farm to a full 1,500+-acre operation.
Loschen delivered fuel for the local co-op, sold feed for Moorman Manufacturing, and drove the school bus in the Wilcox School District during the '80s and '90s to make ends meet. In 1991, Loschen's father retired and Loschen took over the farm full-time.
From being on the Wilcox high school football, basketball, and wrestling teams to chairing the Wilcox Chapter of Future Farmers of America, showing horses in 4-H, singing in choir and playing tuba in the marching band, Loschen lived a real rural Nebraskan youth and enjoys pheasant and quail hunting.
Loschen's children continually tie his farm, political interests and home-life together. As a father he is committed to ensuring today's young people will have competitive job opportunities in Nebraska and at the same time keep them close to home. He is also very proud of his daughter Hallie, who at age 9 won the 2006 state championship AAU Level III gymnastics competition.
Cari Loschen is strongly committed to her children's education and has home-schooled all three of their children. Both Steve and Cari appreciate the opportunity that education choice gives their children to express their individuality. His son Ben, attends Wilcox-Hildreth high school part-time due to his musical interests. John is now a senior at Wilcox-Hildreth high school.
Steve Loschen is excited to be running for Lieutenant Governor with David Hahn, because he and David speak the same language as regular working Nebraskans. Loschen is committed to working with farmers, ranchers and working class folks like himself and making sure Nebraska is in better shape to pass on to the next generation. For Loschen, this election is a God-given opportunity and he's looking forward to serving Nebraskans and bringing positive change and fresh ideas to the people of the state. He will tell you that there are just too many political insiders running state government in Lincoln for the special interests and not for the people.
