Where I Stand: Energy

Energy

Our country is at the forefront of a new energy crisis. Our dependence on foreign oil weakens our nation's economy and defenses while there are viable alternatives literally grown right here in Nebraska.

I believe Nebraska can create a new energy industry right here in our own state through expanded production of ethanol, biomass technology and wind energy. Nebraska can create an entire renewable energy industry and be a net exporter of energy to other states by the year 2025. This will not only reduce our dependence on foreign oil but also help strengthen our own economy by reinvesting in our communities.

My energy plan will:

-Promote energy conservation by the state government

-Implement greater use of renewable energy sources in the state, such as wind power

-Create local ownership structures of this new industry so that wealth created by Nebraskans is reinvested in Nebraska's communities

-Create a Wind Board, like Nebraska's Ethanol Board, to bring more wind power to Nebraska and create the factories that build wind turbines in Nebraska

There's no question that the Nebraskan people can profit from a new energy policy. In the short term, we can lower energy costs for Nebraska. In the long term, we can create thousands of jobs with good pay and create a sustainable energy infrastructure independently owned by Nebraskans.
