Tourism
To help with economic growth, I believe that we need to put a greater emphasis on Nebraska tourism. Not only does an increase in tourism bring a much needed boost to local and state economies, but an increase in hunting and fishing would also bring together urban Nebraskans and rural Nebraskans.
Growth in the tourism economy could come from simply getting Nebraskans from the eastern part of the state into the western part for hunting or fishing. Promoting tourism within the state would be a way to reconnect the state and pay dividends more than we realize.
We are not South Dakota with national monuments, or Colorado with the mountains. We need to focus on our unique natural resources that build on Nebraska's strengths. Let’s take advantage of what we have. There is an opportunity for European tourism within the state because of a fascination with the West and prairie life. As Governor, I would go to Germany, speak the language, and tell the Germans what makes Nebraska special.
