Where I Stand: Property Tax

Property Tax

Click here to download my property tax plan, the Nebraska Tax Fairness Act.

Our property tax system is fundamentally flawed and unfair to working families and family farms and ranches. My first action as governor will be to significantly lower property taxes for Nebraska's hard-working people, and compel large corporations to pay their fair share. My property tax cuts will benefit Nebraska's hard working people like family farmers, ranchers, retirees and young homeowners by creating homestead exemptions for seniors and first-time homebuyers.

Dave Heineman's fake tax cut was actually a tax increase for the middle class. The governor should not be playing politics with taxes when real tax relief is needed. Our property taxes unfairly burden the elderly who rely on fixed incomes, young people who are looking to purchase their first home, and family farmers and ranchers attempting to keep their livelihoods in the family.

I have an alternative that will lower property taxes for Nebraska's middle class: The Nebraska Tax Fairness Act. The Nebraska Tax Fairness Act will make taxes fair, create more stable education funding, increase home sales and construction, and promote economic growth to enhance state revenue rather than continuing our state government's reliance on unfair property taxes.
