Where I Stand: Internet

Internet

Nebraska is the only state with 100 percent public power ownership. We must take advantage of the great gift of George Norris by turning Nebraska’s public power system into the only publicly owned broadband system in the nation. Every town, school and house would have access to the World Wide Web at speeds that would run circles around current Internet service.

This would increase economic growth in both urban and rural areas. For example, a business that wants to locate in western Nebraska would be discouraged to move there if it won’t have access to high-speed, industrial strength Internet. High-speed Internet service is vital to attracting businesses to smaller towns across rural Nebraska.

Statewide high speed Internet access would allow Nebraska's schools to pool their resources with partner schools across the state. Several different schools could all share the same Spanish or German teacher via Internet. Advanced subjects could be taught to high school students in classrooms all over the state. We have the technology. Nebraska needs only the leadership needed to bring our state into the 21st Century.
