Hahn taps Wilcox Farmer for Lieutenant Governor
Loschen Would be first Farmer to be Lieutenant Governor in over 40 Years
August 31, 2006
Candidate for governor and entrepreneur David Hahn announced today that his running mate for lieutenant governor will be Wilcox farmer Steve Loschen.
If elected, David Hahn would be the first Internet entrepreneur ever elected governor in the state's entire history and Steve Loschen would be the first farmer to be elected as lieutenant governor in over 40 years. The last time the state elected a governor and lieutenant governor who had no prior elected service was 15 years ago.
"For too long this state has ignored the voice of working family farmers and ranchers. The neglect shows. Our state has lost 7,000 family farms and ranches in seven years," Hahn said.
"Heineman just doesn't get it," Loschen said.
"I understand agriculture. I grew-up in rural Nebraska and I have defended family farmers and ranchers. Steve Loschen will be a great lieutenant governor with significant authority to make sure the voices of family farmers and ranchers are heard," Hahn said.
Loschen said he decided to join the campaign as candidate for lieutenant governor because he believed Hahn understands agriculture and has a plan that will help grow Nebraska's rural economy by the state delivering broadband Internet access over the publicly owned electric system. Loschen also said that it is time for a gubernatorial ticket that has regular people on it who are for the people, not political insiders who are for the special interests.
"Dave Heineman is for every special interest except the people. David Hahn and I, we are only for the people. You've got our word on it," said Loschen.
